International Centre for Social and Economic Research “Leontief Centre”  (St. Petersburg) presents Leontief Conference Annual On-line Magazine: Russian Economic Reform Issues. The magazine will publish the proceedings of annual Leontief Conferences held in St. Petersburg since 2000.

The idea of Leontief Conferences was born as a wish to honor the memory of V. V. Leontief, a  renowned economist and Nobel Prize Winner, after whom the center is named. Moscow Carnegie Foundation joined in, and in February 2000, on the first anniversary of V. V. Leontief’s death, we jointly held the first conference that focused on the results of the first decade of Russian economic reforms. The speakers at that conference were well-known Russian and foreign scientists: A. Åslund, L. Grigoriev, Ya. Rostovsky, E. Yasin, S. Aleksashenko, S. Saburov, and others. The conference was a success, and its organizers decided to hold annual Leontief Conferences to address the topical issues of economic and social reforms in Russia. 

Second Leontief Conference (February 2001) was staged by already four organizations, after North-West Foundation for Strategic Development (St. Petersburg) and Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation (Sweden) had joined the organizers. The conference discussed reforms in the social and fiscal sectors, regional-level reforms, as well as interaction between the European Union and Russia.

In view of a vast interest in our conferences shown by the scientific community, when preparing the 2002 conference Leontief Centre decided to launch publication of a special on-line magazine “Leontief Conferences: Russian Economic Reform Issues” that will present all Leontief Conference proceedings beginning from Third Leontief Conference (February 2002).
